Background image taken in the mid-1970s from the westbound lane of the new Queen Isabella Causeway. Note: no stoplight at the Highway 100 and Garcia St. intersection. Signs indicate a right hand turn on Garcia St. will take you to Purdy's Motel. Maxan St. was a two way street. The Lighthouse had been restored two decades earlier and was open to the public and staffed by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. The construction of the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage Visitor Center was still 20 years away. Population: approximately 3,500.
